5/9/14: Cubs Fall To Braves In Extras

Chicago, IL- The Cubs fell to the Braves 3-2 in a game that went into ten innings.

Jason Hammel started off shaky in the bottom of the first, but got out of a jam. He started the game with two fly-outs by Jason Heyward and Justin Upton, but then lost his first inning groove. The trouble started with a walk to Freddie Freeman, followed by singles to Evan Gattis and Chris Johnson. With the bags loaded, Jason Hammel was clutch with a strikeout to B.J. Upton to end the inning.

The Cubs got an early 1-0 lead with a Mike Olt blast in the top of the third. However that lead didn't last, as Jason Hammel got into another jam into the bottom of the third. Once again, Jason Hammel got Jason Heyward and Justin Upton to get out. Freddie Freeman and Evan Gattis hit singles again, and eventually moved up on a wild pitch. Soon, Chris Johnson gave the Braves the lead with a two-run RBI single. B.J. Upton ended the inning with a fly-out.

It took the Cubs six innings, but they eventually tied up the ballgame. Ryan Kalish hit an RBI single, which blew Craig Kimbrel's save opportunity.

The Braves eventually won the game on a walk-off RBI single by Freddie Freeman.

Game Notes:
The Cubs top of the lineup struggled, as one hit was recorded between Bonifacio, Kalish, Rizzo, and Castro.
