Preview: Cubs and White Sox May 8, 2014

Chicago, IL- The White Sox are looking to sweep the Cubs this year in the crosstown series as they are up 3-0. The Cubs will send Jake Arrieta to the mound to hold off against the White Sox, while the White Sox send Scott Carroll to the mound to earn the victory against the Cubs.

Jake Arrieta is coming off his first start of the season. Against the Cardinals, he pitched 5.1 innings of shutout baseball with seven strikeouts. Scott Carroll, the twenty-nine year old rookie, is also coming off a solid outing. Against the Indians, he pitched six innings of two-run ball. To sum up, both teams are looking for solid production from both of their starters today.

A name out of the lineup for the Cubs tonight is Emilio Bonifacio. The utility player has been batting .174 the last six games as stated by Carrie Muskat. Bonifacio has seen a lot of time in center field, but tonight Ryan Kalish will replace him.

The Cubs offense really struggled last night besides Bonifacio, Olt, Valbuena, and Barney. The Cubs are looking for Lake, Rizzo, Castro, Castillo, and Kalish to bounce back tonight as all of them went a combined 0 for 17 in yesterday's game.

Another thing the Cubs are looking for tonight is limiting the damage from their south-side rivals. The White Sox have scored twenty-one  runs compared to the Cubs nine runs this series.
