Preview: Brewers at Cubs May 17, 2014

Chicago, IL- Former Chicago Cub, Matt Garza, makes his return to Wrigley Field today. This time, he's in a Milwaukee Brewers uniform, which is not the sight the Cubs want to see. Garza was a fan favorite, and a good player in the locker room too. He will square off against Edwin Jackson in game two of this three-game series.

Matt Garza hasn't had that much success this season. Currently he is 2-3 with a 4.98 ERA in eight starts. A free agent prior to this season, Matt Garza earned himself a 4 yr./50 million dollar deal with the Brewers. In today's start, he looks to improve his numbers, and prove to his team he's a legit top of the rotation starter. On the other hand, Edwin Jackson has been having a pretty successful season this far compared to last year. The right-handed pitcher is also 2-3, but has a lower ERA at 4.56 in eight starts.

Today's lineup for the Cubs is all focused around success against Garza. Chris Coglan is 4-5 lifetime against Garza, and that is a key part of why he is batting second. Another hitter who has success against Garza is Emilio Bonifacio, who has a lifetime batting average of .357 against him. The Cubs will look to depend on these two player's success hopefully carrying into today's game. Some bad news for the Brewers is that Carlos Gomez has been scratched from the lineup, and will be replaced by Logan Schafer. So far this season, Carlos Gomez has been an outstanding lead-off man for the Crew, and sadly today that number one spot will probably be weakened. The Brewers will hope that Herrera can provide some production today in Gomez's absence.
