Preview: Cubs At Giants May 26, 2014



Chicago, IL- Today is game one of a three-game series between the Cubs and the Giants in San Francisco.

Outlook for the Cubs: With a split series in San Diego, the Cubs will come into San Francisco today with the opportunity to sweep all three games from the first-place Giants. Jeff Samardzija will look to earn his first win of the season today. The right-handed pitcher is 0-4 with a 1.46 ERA. Mike Olt will get the day off , as Luis Valbuena gets the start at the hot-corner today. John Baker caught last night for the Cubs, and Wellington Castillo is back in the lineup today. The Cubs will look for their backstop to continue his good numbers against the Giants pitchers today. He has a .417 average against the Giants current staff in his career. 

Outlook for the Giants: The Giants are coming off a sweep against the Twins, and all the positive energy is running in their veins in the NL West. Yusmiero Petit will get the start today, as he is 3-1 with a 4.76 ERA. A lineup for the Giants has not been announced as of this writing. 

News for the Cubs: The Cubs will be getting some right-handed power back on the bench today, as Justin Ruggiano will return from the disabled-list. Ryan Kalish has been sent down to AAA despite a .242 batting average. As noted by Jesse Rogers, Kalish wants to get at-bats down at AAA, and hopefully contribute to the big league team soon. 

News for the Giants: Matt Cain was originated to start today, but he is resting due to a a hamstring injury.
